Rui Dang joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in October 2011. He studied Economics (Ekonomie masterexamen) at Uppsala University, Sweden and Finance (Bachelor of Economics majoring in Finance) at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, China. In his master thesis (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Matz Dahlberg), he studied how a change of municipal income tax rate affect tax base with Swedish data set and found that a tax cut will boost local tax capacity for more than 90% of Swedish municipalities. In addition, he also studied economics at University of Amsterdam and worked part time as a student research assistant for Dr. Rickne at Research Institute of Industrial Economics, Stockholm.

Simon Decker is a part of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics since October 2011. Prior to that he studied Business Administration and Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen. His master's thesis provides an empirical analysis on the educational effects of kindergarten care in Germany using data of the German Socio-Economic Panel Study (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Reinhold Schnabel). During the course of his studies Simon Decker also worked as a tutor and research assistant at several chairs of the University of Duisburg-Essen and at the research institute RWI in Essen.

Martin Fischer joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS) in October 2011. He studied Economics and Statistics at the University of Hanover, Charles University of Prague and the Humboldt University of Berlin. His diploma thesis in economics deals with the applicability of quantile regression estimation methods for sample selection models. His master thesis in statistics investigates the effects of heterogeneity on the analysis of German immigrants’ earnings by using quantile regression methods for panel data. During his studies he worked as a research assistant for the Statistics department at University of Hanover and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin. Furthermore he gave tutorials in statistics and econometrics.

Fabian Herrmann joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in October 2011. He studied Economics at the TU Dortmund University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In his Diploma thesis “Unconventional Instruments of Monetary Policy” he analyzed unconventional monetary policy in the context of a New-Keynesian model with heterogeneity and financial frictions. Parallel to his studies he worked as a student research assistant and tutor at the chairs of Macroeconomics (Prof. Dr. Andreas Schabert) and Applied Economics (Prof. Dr. Ludger Linnemann) at TU Dortmund University.

Eliane Lambertz joined the Ruhr Graduate School of Economics in October 2011. She studied business mathematics (Wirtschaftsmathematik) at Technische Universität Dortmund. During her studies, she focused on operation research, finance and combinatorial optimization and microeconomics. In her diploma thesis, she analyzed "Cycle Decomposition in Genome Rearrangement". In addition to her studies, she worked at Technische Universität Dortmund at the chair of Microeconomics as a tutor and at the chair of Operations Research and Business Informatics as a tutor and student assistant.

Anne Leber joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in October 2011. She obtained both a Bachelor of Arts in the field of humanities and a Bachelor of Science in Economics (specialization in Quantitative Economics) from Universität Konstanz and spent a semester abroad at the University of Adelaide. For her Master of Science in Economics she studied at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. In her master thesis she empirically analyzed the impact of different exchange rate regimes on the macroeconomic performance of Central and Eastern European countries during the recent global crisis. During her studies she worked as a teaching assistant at the Universität Konstanz and as a research assistant at the Labor Markets department at the RWI. Furthermore, she interned at the ifo Institute for Economic Research and the German Federal Ministry of Economics. Besides her studies, Anne Leber has been an active member of the student organization AIESEC for which she has organized projects and worked for its Kenyan branch in Nairobi amongst other things.

Johannes Ludwig joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in October 2011. He studied Economics & Sociology at the University of Cologne. During his studies he focused on macroeconomics, growth theory and applied econometrics. In his diploma thesis which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Alexander Ludwig he empirically examined the effect of rising income and wealth inequality on the growth performance of a country using various international panel data. During his studies he worked as a student assistant at the Center for Macroeconomic Research at the University of Cologne and interned at DIW Berlin and ifo Institute for Economic Research. Beside his studies he was active as a student representative and member of the student parliament.

Hamed Markazi Moghadam joined the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in October 2011. He studied Industrial Engineering (B.Sc.) and Social Economics Sys. Engineering (M.Sc.) at Sharif University of Technology in Iran. He then received Official Master Degree in Economics Analysis from Department of Economics in the University Carlos III de Madrid. In his master thesis he studied asymmetric effect of oil price shocks on the stock price markets using Multivariate GARCH type model(supervisor: Professor Alvaro Escribano). Another valuable experience during his studies was his engagement as teaching assistant in Statistics, Principle of Economics and Microeconomics courses.
