RGS Mini Lecture "Experimental Methods for Program Evalaution" Prof. Nathan Fiala, PhD

Professor Nathan Fiala, PhD visited the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) from July 17-19th, to hold a RGS Mini-Lecture on "Experimental Methods for Program Evaluation". Nathan Fiala is an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, specializing in agricultural and resource economics.

The course focused on the use of randomized controlled trials to identify the effects of policies, especially in the context of developing countries. More then 15 PhD students from both the RGS Econ and the UA Ruhr joined the three day course, learning how to conduct experimental program evaluations, including how to design an appropriate evaluation strategy and work with survey and program staff to ensure the evaluation is completed as designed. Professor Fiala also conducted office consultations with students to discuss their current research and gave a seminar talk, 'Social accountability and service delivery: Evidence from a large-scale experiment in Uganda'.

The RGS Econ thanks Professor Fiala for his visit and highly appreciates his enthusiastic teaching style and willingness to engage with students and their research questions.
