RGS Welcome Ceremony 2013

This year the 10th cohort of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) started their PhD studies at the RWI in Essen.

Since 2004 the RGS Econ offers a structured PhD program on international level to promising young scientists. Since then, more than 70 PhD students entered the school of which roughly 40 already received their doctorate. In October 2013 the 10th cohort entered the school. Looking back at a successful decade of PhD education in Economics in the Ruhr Area, this cohort represents an encouraging outlook into the near future.
As the nine highly qualified students began their studies in the structured PhD program about a month ago, a Welcome Ceremony took place on November 11th. Students, professors and sponsors came to the RWI to participate in the ceremony. After Prof. Christoph Schmidt spoke some opening remarks about the past 10 years of the program and welcomed the new faculty members to the school, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Leininger introduced the new cohort (Marius Bickmann, Fabian Dehos, Steffen Esser, Ulrich Haskamp, Michael Simora, Laura Sinn, Alessandro Terracina, Mathias Westphal and Christian Wittrock) in person. Following this warm welcome to the school, this year's doctorates (Dr. Claudia Burgard, Dr. Regina Flake, Dr. Michael Kind, Dr. Klemens Keldenich, Dr. Marcus Klemm and Dr. Tobias Körner) were honored and received their official RGS Econ graduation certificate. After the official part of the ceremony the evening faded out with a get-together where the new cohort got to know their fellows.
